Born in 1979 in Baku, Anar Karimov graduated from Baku State Univesity with bachelor’s (1999) and master’s (2002) degrees with honors in the field of International Law. In 2001, he obtained master’s degree in International Economic Law from the American University (Washington, USA).
In 2001, Mr. Karimov was a lawyer at the US-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce (USA). From 2002 to 2005, he was an attaché and third secretary in the Department of Economic Cooperation and Development of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2005-2006, Mr. Karimov was a third secretary in the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Switzerland. In 2007-2010 was senior lawyer for Turkey and Central Asia at the Islamic Development Bank (S. Arabia). In 2010-2011, Mr. Karimov was Deputy Head and Head of the Departments for foreign investments and economic relations of the Ministry of Economic Development. In 2011-2018, was an expert in international projects and worked in management positions in the private sector.
He was a member of the Azerbaijan Bar Association, a co-founder of the Azerbaijan-British Lawyers Association and the vice-president of the Azerbaijan-Italy Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Karimov is a candidate of legal sciences and worked as a teacher in the English-language master's program of the faculty of law at Baku State University.
Until his current position, he worked as an adviser to the Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population.
He has good command of English, French and Russian.
He is married with three children.
