Ensuring decent work is one of the key priorities of Azerbaijan state policy. In recent years, our country has ratified nearly 60 Conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO), including last year’s "Convention on Occupational Safety and Health."
Azerbaijan, which has an active cooperation experience with the ILO, has improved its national legislation in the field of labour and employment in accordance with the approaches arising from these documents. Today, the country's Labour Code includes a separate chapter that covers labour protection standards, guarantees for the implementation of the right to labour protection, and etc. It is emphasized that the owner and employer of the enterprise are directly responsible for ensuring the implementation of labour protection standards and rules at the workplace.
The Labour Code also includes provisions related to the minimum wage, including the right of workers to receive wages not less than the minimum wage. It should also be noted that the minimum wage in our country is regularly increased. As a result of the four social reform packages implemented over the last five years, the minimum wage has increased 2,7 times, the average monthly wage has doubled, the median wage has increased by 2,2 times, and the wage fund has tripled.
Special attention is also given to employees' vacation rights in national legislation. It is stated that the right to vacation and the procedure for its use cannot be restricted. Depending on the length of employment, workers are granted additional vacation days: 2 calendar days for 5 to 10 years of service, 4 calendar days for 10 to 15 years of service, and 6 calendar days for more than 15 years of service.
Legislation also reflects international principles related to gender equality, non-discrimination in labour relations, the prohibition of child labour exploitation and forced labour, and the non-restriction of vacation rights.
