The conference was dedicated to April 28 - International Workers' Memorial Day and the 100th anniversary of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic
The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan, together with the State Labor Inspectorate Service under the Ministry and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, organized a conference on the topic "The Impact of Climate Change on Labor Protection" in Nakhchivan city. The conference was dedicated to April 28 - International Workers' Memorial Day and the 100th anniversary of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
Fuad Najafli, the authorized representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, spoke about the 100-year history of autonomy in the autonomous republic. He highlighted the outstanding services of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the development of the autonomous republic. Fuad Najafli emphasized the dynamic and comprehensive development of Azerbaijan, including the continuous development processes in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, as a result of the successful domestic and foreign policy of President Ilham Aliyev. He noted that the adverse effects of climate change make labor protection even more relevant, highlighting the significance of the conference being held in Nakhchivan city.
Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population Sahil Babayev announced that Azerbaijan will host COP29 this year, considering it as the most significant event for the country in 2024. He also mentioned that in line with the mission, President Ilham Aliyev's Decree declared 2024 as the "Year of Solidarity for a Green World" in Azerbaijan. The Minister emphasized that climate change affects labor protection in various ways, making it even more important to ensure the health and safety of workers. He noted that the International Labor Organization's theme for 2024, related to World Day for Safety and Health at Work, is "The impact of climate change on labor protection."
Sahil Babayev highlighted Azerbaijan's ratification of nearly 60 conventions of the International Labor Organization, including documents related to labor protection, and the successes of the digitalization program in the social sphere. He mentioned the establishment of the Labor Protection Center aimed at supporting employers in labor protection, as well as the activities of the Technical Committee on standardization in the field of labor. He also pointed out that the awareness-raising activities between workers and employers on labor protection also cover our liberated territories.
Musa Guliyev, Chairman of the Labor and Social Policy Committee of the National Assembly, Sattar Mohbalıyev, President of the Confederation of Azerbaijan Trade Unions and Vice President of the National Assembly, Vugar Abbasov, Vice President of the Confederation of Employers (Employers) of Azerbaijan, Muhammad Fatih Alodali, Head of Labor Protection and Safety Department of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of Türkiye, and Azar Bayramov, Director of the Labor Center of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's Labor Center, delivered speeches, emphasizing the importance of the conference. Later, Joakim Pintado Nunes, Head of the Labor Inspection and Labor Protection Division of the ILO Labor Administration, addressed the conference participants via video message. Positive experiences in the field of labor protection and awards for trade unions (trade union organizations) that contribute to public awareness of labor and social rights were presented at the event.
Panel discussions were held on "Current Challenges in Ensuring Labor Protection in the Context of Climate Change" and "Perspectives on Labor Protection in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic."
After the conference, a tree-planting campaign was held in Nakhchivan city with the participation of people with disabilities as a gift for the "Year of Solidarity for a Green World." The campaign aimed to draw public attention to the improvement and restoration of green areas and environmental protection, as well as the fight against climate change.
