The 8th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia was held in capital Baku.
A Serbian delegation, led by Nikola Selakovic, co-chairman of the Intergovernmental Commission and Minister of Culture, is in Azerbaijan to attend the meeting.
During the meeting, the Co-Chairman of the Commission, Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population Sahil Babayev, and Nikola Selakovic exchanged views on the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia, reviewed the progress in bilateral relations, and discussed the agenda for the 8th Commission meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population Sahil Babayev stressed that the political will and efforts of the leaders of Serbia and Azerbaijan had contributed to the development of bilateral ties, which have reached the strategic partnership level.
It was highlighted that Azerbaijan and Serbia signed the Declaration on Strategic Partnership in 2013, the Joint Action Plan on Strategic Partnership in 2018, and numerous cooperation documents across various fields, reflecting a relationship built on friendship and mutual trust.
The establishment of the Strategic Partnership Council between Azerbaijan and Serbia was highly appreciated.Trade relations between the two countries continue to grow, with trade turnover increasing by 5.24 times in the first six months of this year. In the past period, 12 business forums and meetings were held in Baku and Belgrade, emphasizing their importance in fostering business relations and exploring new cooperation opportunities.
Nikola Selakovic expressed satisfaction with the expanding relations between Serbia and Azerbaijan, based on friendship and mutual respect, and noted the continuous efforts to further develop these ties.
The meeting reviewed perspectives of cooperation in various fields, including trade and economic relations, energy, transport logistics, labor and social protection, agriculture, and education, discussing future directions and new projects for collaboration.
Then the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission signed the Protocol on the outcomes of the meeting, which provides for cooperation in varies areas.
S. Babayev and N. Selakovich expressed confidence that the signed document will contribute to the continuous development of relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia.
