The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, in cooperation with the International Labor Organization (ILO), held a webinar on "The impact of climate change on labor safety and health".
Representatives of the Ministry and the State Labor Inspection Service under the Ministry, more than 30 institutions including representatives of social partners, ILO specialists participated in the event. The webinar aimed to educate about the impact of climate change on labor safety and health, as well as the importance of the fundamental conventions of the ILO in the work of labor protection in member countries.
The head of state's decree designated 2024 as the "Year of Solidarity for the Green World" in Azerbaijan, underscoring the significant contributions our nation has made to the fight against the effects of climate change and environmental protection. It has been announced that our nation will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) this year.
It was emphasized that the provision of decent work in Azerbaijan, including the protection of workers' health, is one of the main priorities. The importance of fundamental conventions of the ILO in labor protection in member countries was discussed. These conventions, the standards, norms and regulations stipulated in the national legislation on labor protection and safety, and the latest changes in the legislation have been brought to attention.
Information was given on the rules for ensuring labor protection conditions against the background of climate change. The activity of the Labor Protection Center subordinated to the State Labor Inspection Service aimed at supporting employers in the field of labor protection and safety was also mentioned.
