On the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population with a group of family members of the victims, as well as a war veteran who witnessed the tragedy.
The meeting began with a one-minute silence to honor the memory of the genocide victims.
Anar Karimov, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population, emphasized that the massacre committed on the night of February 25-26, 1992, in the city of Khojaly, Azerbaijan, by the Armenian armed forces with the support of the 366th Guards Motor Rifle Regiment of the former Soviet army, is one of the most horrific crimes against humanity.
During the tragedy, 613 Azerbaijanis, including 63 children, 106 women, and 70 elderly people, were brutally murdered. Additionally, 1275 people were taken hostage, and hundreds of residents were severely injured.
It was noted that the blood of the Khojaly genocide victims was not in vain. Under the leadership of President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, our army achieved a magnificent victory in the 44-day Patriotic War, liberating our lands from Armenia's 30-year-long occupation. In September 2023, anti-terror measures put an end to Armenian separatism in Karabakh, and the city of Khojaly was completely cleared of separatists.
Family members of the genocide victims and witnesses of the tragedy shared their experiences regarding the atrocities committed by Armenian armed forces in Khojaly 33 years ago.
During the meeting, the efforts made to ensure social protection for Khojaly residents, as well as the social support provided to the families of martyrs and individuals who were injured and disabled during the tragedy, were also highlighted.
