To date, nearly 300 persons with hearing and speech impairments have benefited from the “Let Us Be Your Voice” online sign language interpretation service provided by the State Medical and Social Expertise and Rehabilitation Agency under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population.
Launched for the first time in Azerbaijan on 28 July last year, the service facilitates the transmission of requests from persons with hearing and speech impairments to third parties, including government bodies and private sector institutions. The service creates a “virtual bridge” between persons with hearing and speech impairments and those who do not know sign language.
Citizens can contact an operator via video call or written message, and the operator performs the function of a sign language interpreter, establishing contact with the relevant third party according to the nature of the request and enabling online communication.
To use the service, citizens may contact 055 213 19 97 via WhatsApp or Telegram. The “Let Us Be Your Voice” sign language interpretation service operates six days a week, from Monday to Saturday, excluding Sunday, between 09:00 and 16:00.
It should be noted that this inclusive project has been recognized by the World Health Organization as a best practice and included in a document showcasing successful experiences in ensuring accessibility, inclusiveness, and social integration for persons with disabilities in the WHO European Region.
