Covering the participants of the Second World War of 1941-1945 with comprehensive attention and care is one of the main directions of the social policy implemented in Azerbaijan.
National Leader Heydar Aliyev always paid special attention and care to them. In the first years of our independence, there was an indifferent attitude towards the participants of the Second World War, but after the return of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev to the leadership of our republic in June 1993, at the call of the people, this indifference was put an end to, and an active state policy was formed in the direction of the social protection of the participants of the Second World War. May 9 - Victory Day has been celebrated again as a state holiday in our country since that time.
This great attention and care to the participants of the Second World War is successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev. The disabled and participants of the Second World War are paid monthly benefits and monthly pensions of the President. These payments have been regularly increased, in the past period. Especially as a result of successive social reforms carried out in the last five years, allowances and pension payments have increased by 5 times and the average monthly pension has increased by 2 times in our country. When pensions were assigned to the participants of the Second World War, supplements were also calculated for their pensions in accordance with the legislation.
At the same time, every year on the eve of May 9 - Victory Day, the head of state signs the Decree on providing one-time financial assistance to the participants of the Second World War. This year, with the Decree dated April 26, 2023, in connection with the 78th anniversary of the Victory in the Second World War, one-time financial assistance of 1,500 manats was given to the participants of that war, and 750 manats to other persons specified in the Decree. The order covered a total of 3538 persons, 51 of them were participants of the Second World War, and the rest were from other categories.
In recent years for war participants, the amount of that one-time financial assistance has been increased 3 times, 4 times for widows of fighters, persons awarded medals and badges for selfless work on the rear front, etc. In the past, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population provided housing and cars to persons with disabilities related to the Second World War.
Provision of social services to citizens belonging to this category, as well as widows of soldiers, persons who have been awarded medals and badges for selfless work on the rear front, etc., is being carried out.
