A tripartite meeting on the elimination of child labour was held by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population in cooperation with the International Labour Organization (ILO).
The meeting, attended by representatives of government bodies and social partners, aimed to inform participants about global challenges in combating child labour, the international legal framework in this field, and practical approaches.
Fuad Heydarov, Head of the Labour Policy Department of the Ministry’s Office, provided information on state policy in ensuring decent labour and noted that Azerbaijan has ratified 60 ILO Conventions and one protocol. Efforts made in recent years to strengthen the legal framework and improve labour inspection mechanisms were also highlighted.
It was noted that the “Labour and Employment” (LMES) subsystem includes functionalities for monitoring child labour. The activities of the Working Group involving relevant state bodies to prevent child labour exploitation were also emphasised.
Yashar Hamzayev, National Coordinator of the ILO for Azerbaijan, underlined that the elimination of child labour is one of the fundamental principles of the ILO and highlighted the importance of Conventions No. 138 and No. 182. Azerbaijan’s achievements in combating child labour, the development of social dialogue mechanisms, and the application of digital solutions were positively assessed.
The meeting, held in a webinar format, included presentations and provided information on international labour standards, their practical application, and best practices in the field.
