In the Patriotic War, which ended with our historic Victory in 2020, the Azerbaijani Army, under the leadership of President and Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, liberated our native lands from nearly 30 years of occupation by Armenia.
As a result of the great victory also receiving political confirmation, Lachin District was handed over to the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan on December 1, 2020. On August 26, 2022, Lachin City, as well as the villages of Zabukh and Sus in Lachin, were brought under the control of the Azerbaijani Army. Thus, the occupation of Lachin was completely ended.
According to the Order signed by the President of Azerbaijan on July 31, 2023, August 26 is celebrated every year as Lachin City Day.
As in other territories liberated from occupation, life has returned to Lachin. Having become a centre of large-scale reconstruction and development, a modern and beautiful region reunited with its native residents, Lachin is now experiencing a new period of development.
