On the initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO), June 4 is celebrated as World Day for Assistive Technology this year.
On the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, within the framework of the social reforms carried out in recent years by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, rehabilitation infrastructure has been established in accordance with modern requirements and its network has been expanded, and important steps have been taken to strengthen the provision of assistive technologies (rehabilitation aids).
For the first time in the history of our country's independence, people with disabilities have begun to be provided with high-tech prostheses and motorized wheelchairs. The types of rehabilitation aids provided to people with disabilities at the expense of the state budget have been grouped by the Ministry, in cooperation with the WHO, as rehabilitation aids for mobility, self-care, vision, hearing and communication in accordance with the Organization's classification. The total number in the list of these types has been increased from 57 to 81. The list includes 81 main rehabilitation tools, along with 49 types of supplements for the use of rehabilitation tools.
In 2018-2024, the annual number of rehabilitation aids provided to persons with disabilities from the state budget increased by 2,7 times, reaching 97 thousand. At the same time, in the post-war period, the Ministry provided 493 servicemen with 610 high-tech, latest-generation prostheses.
Mobile services are also provided to provide persons with disabilities with rehabilitation aids at their addresses. During these services, persons with disabilities are also provided with information on the rules for using and maintaining rehabilitation aids.
