Today marks the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. On the night of February 25–26, 1992, the armed forces of Armenia, with the participation of the 366th regiment of the former Soviet army stationed in Khankendi, committed this genocide in the city of Khojaly with unprecedented cruelty. This atrocity is a historical crime against all humanity.
As a bloody tragedy that entered human history alongside the Holocaust, the Khojaly genocide resulted in the killing of 613 people, including 63 children, 106 women, and 70 elderly persons. Eight families were completely annihilated, 56 people were killed with particular cruelty, 487 people were injured, and 1,275 people were taken hostage.
However, the victims of the Khojaly genocide have been avenged, and their blood has not remained unrequited. In 2020, during the 44-day Patriotic War, under the leadership of President and Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Army achieved a glorious Victory, liberating our native lands from Armenia’s occupation.
Furthermore, on September 19–20, 2023, as a result of a local anti-terror operation conducted by our Army, the city of Khojaly was cleared of separatists. Like our other liberated native territories, Khojaly is now the site of extensive reconstruction efforts. Residents who had been separated from their homes for many years are now returning to their native lands.
On the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, the staff of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population visited the Mother's Cry Monument. Flowers were laid at the monument, and the cherished memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide was honored with deep respect.
