When organising a shift work schedule in workplaces and assigning employees to night shifts, employers should, where possible, take into account the needs of employees related to fulfilling their family responsibilities, provided that these needs are justified.
One of the recent amendments made to labour legislation at the beginning of this year concerns this issue.
Thus, the concept of an employee with family responsibilities has been introduced into the Labour Code. This concept refers to an employee whose ability to commence employment or perform their labour function is limited due to the need to provide care or assistance to a family member who requires service or support.
The Code also states that providing concessions, privileges, and additional guarantees in labour relations to employees belonging to this category by the employer is not considered discrimination.
