April 2nd is the World Autism Awareness Day
Currently, there are 5000 persons with autism syndrome disability in our country. Rehabilitation services are provided to individuals in this category at the rehabilitation centers of the State Medical-Social Expertise and Rehabilitation Agency under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population.
To support the development of persons with autism syndrome disability according to their potential and their ability to live independently, they are involved in rehabilitation services such as cognitive, speech, and self-care skills development through psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapy, yoga, dance ability (dance therapy), etc.
Additionally, the Agency provides these individuals with hippotherapy (therapy with horses). Based on international experience, this therapy positively affects the social-psychological and physiotherapeutic rehabilitation of children with autism spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, speech impairments, and others.
At the centers, persons with autism syndrome disability are provided with rehabilitation services in outpatient care, community-based services, tele-rehabilitation, and mobile forms of service delivery.
