8 March is International Women’s Day.
Last year, small family businesses were established for more than 6.5 thousand women under the self-employment program.
Increasing women’s access to the labour market and expanding employment opportunities are among the main priorities of the state employment policy implemented in our country.
As part of continued measures in this direction, the State Employment Agency under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population provided suitable employment for another 69.5 thousand women in 2025.
The self-employment program, which has significant socio-economic importance, has also created opportunities for unemployed and job-seeking women to access small-scale entrepreneurship. Over the past year, more than 6.5 thousand women were provided with assets within the framework of the self-employment program, enabling the establishment of small family businesses for them.
One of the active employment programs is the involvement of unemployed and job-seeking individuals in vocational training courses that meet the demands of the labour market. Last year, the State Employment Agency involved another 18.4 thousand individuals in vocational training courses, of which 11.8 thousand were women.
In recent years, improvements made to the country’s labour legislation regarding women’s labour have been aimed at expanding women’s employment opportunities. During the 2025 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, the reforms implemented in Azerbaijan in this field were presented as an example. In addition, in the World Bank’s Women, Business and the Law 2024 report-ranking, Azerbaijan increased its index from 78.8 to 85 and rose by 35 positions, moving from 104th place to 69th place among 190 countries.
