During the past period, 91 children have been placed in foster families by the Social Services Agency under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population. Of these, 51 are girls and 40 are boys.
In accordance with the legislation, agreements on the placement of the children in foster families have been signed between the Ministry and the individuals who have taken them into their care.
The “Foster Family” care model aims to ensure that children who have lost their parents, are deprived of parental care, or have been placed in institutions by their parents are raised and developed in a family environment under state supervision through placement with foster families.
Relevant social support measures are also provided to foster families. Accordingly, a monthly allowance of 355 AZN is paid for each child under the age of 6 placed in foster care (500 AZN for a child with a disability); 375 AZN for a child aged 7–13 (600 AZN for a child with a disability); and 395 AZN for a child aged 14–18 (650 AZN for a child with a disability).
Foster families are also provided with a one-time allowance of 200 AZN per child once every quarter to purchase seasonal clothing for children placed in their care.
In recent months, the process of implementing the foster family model has been further simplified. As a result, the minimum period required for a child to be placed with a foster family has been reduced to two weeks. Citizens applying to become foster families have also been given the opportunity to attend training courses online.
