More than 410 persons with hearing and speech impairments have benefited from the online sign language interpretation service “Let Us Be Your Voice”, implemented by the State Agency for Medical and Social Expertise and Rehabilitation under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population.
Launched for the first time in Azerbaijan on 28 July last year, this service ensures that the requests of persons with hearing and speech impairments are conveyed to third parties (state institutions, the private sector, etc.). Through the service, a “virtual bridge” is created between persons with hearing and speech impairments and parties who do not know sign language.
Persons with hearing and speech impairments contact the operator via video call or written message, and the operator–sign language interpreter establishes contact with the relevant third party according to the nature of the request and facilitates online communication.
Those wishing to benefit from the service may apply via the WhatsApp or Telegram platforms at 055 213 19 97. The “Let Us Be Your Voice” sign language interpretation service operates six days a week, from Monday to Saturday, from 09:00 to 16:00, except on Sundays.
This inclusive project has been recognised by the World Health Organization as a best practice and has been included in the Organization’s document on successful practices in ensuring accessibility, inclusiveness and social integration for persons with disabilities in the European region.
