One of the key conditions for ensuring gender equality in employment relations is to prevent any direct or indirect discrimination against employees on the basis of gender and to ensure that their rights are not restricted.

Under the legislation, employers must treat employees equally and provide equal opportunities regardless of gender when hiring, promoting, providing opportunities for professional development and acquiring new qualifications, as well as when evaluating the quality of work and terminating employment. Except in cases provided for by legislation, vacancies may not be advertised exclusively for representatives of one gender.

Employers are required to provide equal pay to employees who perform the same or different work of equal value, regardless of gender. Employees performing the same work must be provided with the same working conditions regardless of gender, and different disciplinary measures may not be applied to employees for the same violation.

One of the responsibilities of an employer is to take the necessary measures to prevent discrimination in the workplace on the basis of gender.

The establishment of benefits, privileges and additional guarantees in employment relations for women, persons with disabilities, employees with family responsibilities, persons under the age of 18 and other persons in need of social protection, as well as specialists working in the territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan liberated from occupation, is not considered discrimination.

It should be noted that the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan has declared August 21–September 21 as “Peace Month.” The purpose of the month is to raise public awareness of the interrelationship between peace and human rights, strengthen an environment of mutual respect and trust in society, expand opportunities for dialogue and understanding, and encourage the participation of government bodies, local self-government bodies, civil society institutions and the general public in activities carried out in this direction.
