As citizen welfare stands at the centre of President Ilham Aliyev’s policy, Azerbaijan pursues a strong social policy. The five social reform packages implemented consecutively over the past seven years clearly demonstrate this in practice.
These social reform packages have enabled significant increases in wages, pensions, and other social payments, including a 3.1-fold increase in the minimum wage, a 2-fold increase in the average monthly wage, nearly a 3-fold increase in the minimum pension, a 2.6-fold increase in the average monthly pension, a 5-fold increase in annual funds allocated for social benefits and allowances, and a 2.4-fold increase in the average monthly amount of targeted social assistance per family, among others.
In an interview with local television channels, the President emphasised that five social reform packages have been implemented over the past seven years, stating:
“These reforms cover 4 million people and involve nearly 8 billion manats. Last year alone, 1.4 billion manats of budget funds were spent for these purposes. That is, wages, pensions, and benefits are increased regularly, and pensions are indexed.”
